A team of 16 skilled craftsmen has built a massive wicker basket measuring 9.48 meters in height, with a base of 18.17 meters in length and 10.20 meters in width. The project took nine days to complete and has set a new world record for the Largest Wicker Basket.
“We used over 12,000 individual wicker rods – around 12 cubic meters – all sourced from the Petrești forest in Cluj County,” the organizers stated.
“In Turda, we have a strong tradition of basket weaving,” said Tudor Dragop, one of the leaders of the project. “If we had the wicker ready in advance, we could have finished the basket in just three days. But gathering the right materials took time,” Dragop joked after the basket was completed.
The 16 artisans from the traditional crafts community of Turda, led by Tudor Dragop and Bazil Rezmives, skillfully wove the enormous basket, which is large enough to hold one million loaves of bread or approximately 350 tons of maize.
